Road traffic crashes remain one of the leading causes of death and injury in Africa, generating high social and economic costs. Despite growing recognition of road safety as a public health and development priority, many African countries continue to face substantial challenges in securing adequate and sustainable funding for road safety interventions.

While international initiatives and development partners increasingly support road safety programmes, there remains a need to strengthen national financing mechanisms, improve investment planning, and demonstrate the economic value of road safety interventions. Sustainable financing is essential to move from isolated pilot projects to long-term, systemic improvements aligned with the Safe System approach.

The TRANS-SAFE project seeks to promote transformative road safety solutions through capacity building, peer learning, and the implementation of evidence-based interventions across African cities and regions. In this context, understanding how countries and cities can mobilise and sustain funding for road safety is critical for achieving lasting impact.

During the webinar, TRANS-SAFE pilot cities will present examples of low-cost interventions implemented and discuss the potential of these interventions to be replicated across African cities. This would directly connect the financing discussion to the project's practical implementation experience.
